Class Requirements
The class files require that Crystal Reports 8.0.1
is available on the student’s computer.
The Distributing Data lesson has exercises that
uses Microsoft Excel 97 and Microsoft Word 97. In order to complete this
task you must have access to these applications.
In order for the class to run properly, perform
the procedures described below to install both Crystal Reports and the
class files.
Install Crystal Reports
Run Crystal Reports 8.0.1 setup. Select Typical
installation.
The default installation directory should be:
C:FilesSoftwareReports.
In addition, you will need printers if you want to
print the reports created in the course.
Install class files
The sample database files must be stored in the My
Documents folder on the student’s hard drive. All of the reports
provided for the hands-on exercises use these sample files. Copy the
Database files folder from the student disk into the
My Documents folder on the hard drive.
Copy the Xtreme.mdb database file from :
C:FilesSoftwareReportsinto C:Documentsfiles. This database is a sample
provided by Crystal.
Copy the Data files folder from the student disk
into the My Documents folder on the hard drive. This folder contains the
reports used in the step-by-step exercises.
Course description
Overview: Students
will learn the basics of report creation including sorting, grouping,
linking, basic formula creation, working with report experts and how to
distribute reports to other users.
Prerequisites: To
ensure your success, we recommend that you first take one of the
following Element K Press courses or have equivalent knowledge:
• Windows 95: Introduction
• Windows 98: Introduction
• Windows NT 4.0 Introduction
Delivery method:
Instructor-led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with
structured hands-on activities.
Benefits: Students
will learn how to create basic reports that include linking, formulas,
working with sections, selection criteria and report distribution.
Target student: This
course is designed for users with little or no experience with Crystal
Reports but who have the need to generate reports based on data
available to them. Although no database experience is necessary, some of
the concepts may be more meaningful if the user has worked with database
applications before. A basic knowledge of relational data concepts is
also recommended.
