Administering the Active Directory

space
Prepares student for Microsoft Exam #70-217

Course description

Overview: This course was designed to teach the fundamental skills necessary to setup and administer an Active Directory domain in Windows 2000. Topics will cover installation, configuration, management, and security issues. This course will assist students in preparing for Microsoft MCP Exam #70-217 “Implementing and Administering a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure.”

Prerequisites: Windows 2000: Network and Operating System Basics, Windows 2000: Installation and Administration, and Windows 2000: Network Infrastructure Implementation, or equivalent knowledge.

Delivery method: Instructor-led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities.

Benefits: Students will learn how to install, configure, and administer the Active Directory in Windows 2000. They’ll also learn how to use Windows 2000’s new Group Policy feature to centrally manage users and computers in a Windows 2000 AD domain.

Target student: We designed Windows 2000: Administering the Active Directory for a new systems administrator who already knows how to install and configure the Windows 2000 operating system in a network environment, but needs to learn how to install, configure, and administer an Active Directory domain.

What's next: This course is the final course in the core exam MCSE path. Students who want to learn how to plan and design Windows 2000 environments can take any of the following four elective exam courses: Windows 2000: Active Directory Design, Windows 2000: Designing Network Services, Windows 2000: Migration Strategy, and Windows 2000: Designing a Secure Network.

Performance-based objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
